Pepper Wood is about half a mile south of Fairfield. It is a semi-natural ancient woodland dating from about 800 AD and is a surviving remnant of the old Forest of Feckenham. It is about 130 acres in area, and is dominated by oak, birch and hazel.
The wood has been managed for much of the last century, and was completely felled in the 1940’s. It has been coppiced ever since. This is what gives the wood its variety of scenery, its open atmosphere and its SSSI status.

The wood is popular with walkers and riders. Coppicing lets in the sun and the rain, makes for varied woodland scenery, and opens up views of the Abberley and Malvern Hills. It also encourages wild flowers, of which bluebells and wood anemones are among the most striking and creates nesting sites for a wide variety of birds.

The wood is actually owned by the Woodland Trust, who delegate the routine management to the volunteer group. The Trust set overall guidelines, within which the volunteer group has considerable freedom of action

The minutes and memories of the group over more than 20 years have been gathered together and appear elsewhere on the site.  Meanwhile, there are various maps showing different features you can see from this page.
