Produce Availability, April 2008 If you require something that is not listed here, please ask whether it can be made specially. We are always keen to diversify! You are always welcome to come and look round - especially on Sunday mornings, when the regular volunteers will be only too pleased to show you what is available and how we can meet your needs. A few sacks of prime quality charcoal remain for sale, price £3 each. More will be made in early Summer All the available cordwood has now been sold. Due to various tidying operations, there is a modest amount of wood for logging, and at present we have an estimated twenty sacks worth, which we will log and split on demand. Additional supplies may arise from felling around specimen trees. Sawn and Cleft Oak: Supplies are limited, due to a major order, and milling operations are to be kept at a low level until the latter part of May. Production of square-section posts will after that become much easier and quicker, following the acquisition of a new chainsaw attachment. Hedging materials, beanpoles, pea sticks and other coppice products are in good supply. This year's coppice has been poor in hazel, but rich in blackthorn. This is a vicious material until the thorns have been removed, but once tamed it is tough and durable, and the wood of choice for making walking sticks.
